Assam Flood Crisis: Death Toll Rises as Authorities Begin Damage Assessment
Guwahati, August 9, 2026: Assam continues to face a severe flood situation, with widespread disruption reported across several parts of the state. Recent reports indicate that the flood crisis has caused significant loss of life and affected a large number of residents.
According to reports published on Sunday, the death toll has risen to around 99, while approximately 1.47 lakh people remain affected by the floods. The figures may change as authorities continue to assess the situation and update their reports.
The flood situation has been linked to heavy monsoon rainfall and rising water levels, leaving communities in several areas vulnerable. Relief and assistance efforts are continuing, while authorities are assessing damage to homes, infrastructure and other properties.
A detailed flood-damage assessment is also being undertaken to determine the extent of losses and support required by affected families.
The situation remains a major concern in Assam, with residents in vulnerable areas being urged to follow instructions issued by local authorities and disaster-management agencies.
